Homeowners invited to use new digital tool to locate energy performance certificate or book an assessment

Homeowners can now use the Government’s new digital energy efficiency tool to “improve the energy performance of their homes and cut their energy bills”.

The online service, launched this month, makes it easier to find an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) or assessor, which could help identify energy-saving improvements and is essential for anyone looking to sell or rent their property.

The digital tool can also be used to book a property assessment to get a new display energy certificate (DEC) for a public building or air conditioning inspection certificate and report.

Under property market legislation, an EPC is needed whenever a property is built, sold or rented. An assessment, therefore, must be carried out for potential buyers and tenants before the property can be marketed. It is valid for 10 years.

Using an energy efficiency rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient), the EPC contains information about a property’s energy use and typical energy costs, as well as recommendations about how to reduce energy use and save money.

Homeowners can check if they already have a valid energy certificate here. If they don’t, then you can get in touch with our team at Brooking who can help you make arrangements.

Commenting on the launch of the new online service, Housing Minister Christopher Pincher said: “This new service is part of our commitment to improving the energy performance of all properties to create a cleaner, greener built environment.

“It will help people to assess if they can improve the energy efficiency of their own homes – helping to improve the environment and save on bills.”

According to the latest research, households could save £600 a year through basic energy-efficiency improvements such as insulation, double glazing, and low-carbon heating.
